LIFE AROUND HERBS AND SPICES!

Herbs and spices plays major role in our life. These exotic  and aromatic treasure bring us pleasure and satisfy us on many levels from flavoring our foods and healing sickness and filling our homes with nice aromas.
We use herbs for their miraculous health benefits. It provide protection against some of the deadliest chronic conditions, like cancer, heart disease and diabetes. A little extra spice can remove the need for excess salt and by limiting the consumption of sodium intake which is essential to prevent high blood pressure.
Lets have a look on some herbs…

1.CINNAMON / DAL CHINI
Cinnamon is a popular spice, found in almost all recipes. It has potent antioxidant activity,
helps fight inflammation and has been shown to lower cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. It controls blood sugar level.

2. HOLY BASIL / TULSI
Indian Holy basil (regular basil) helps fight infections and boosts immunity. It can inhibit the growth of a range of bacteria and yeast. It can boost the function of immune system by increasing immune cells in the blood. Beats stress. Journal of Ayurveda and integrative medicine has it that the presence of Tulsi in your household is known to beat stress and it is used to cure common cold and cough .Keeps mosquitoes away. It keeps the air clean and fresh .Fresh aroma around the house.

3. GINGER / ADRAK
Ginger is among the most healthiest and aromatic spice on this planet. It is closely related to turmeric and galangal. It is loaded with nutrients and have powerful benefits for your body and brain. It can treat many form of nausea, especially morning sickness. It has anti inflammatory properties, which can help with Osteoarthritis. Ginger may reduce muscle pain and soreness. It can lower your blood sugar and improves heart disease risk factor.

4. NEEM
In Ayurveda, neem is a popular medicinal herb that’s been part of traditional remedies that date back almost 5000 years. No wonder it’s such an effective anti-viral and anti-bacterial, along with being a powerful immuno-stimulant.  The primary purpose of neem leaves is the treatment of vaata disorders or neuromuscular pains. Then come the other benefits: purify the blood, prevent damage caused by free radicals in the body, remove toxins, treat insect bites and ulcers. Neem leaves have anti-bacterial properties which is why it works wonders on infections, burns and any kind of skin problems. It destroys the bacteria that causes infections, stimulates the immune system and encourages rapid healing. It’s a wound healer.

5.TURMERIC/ HALDI
It is a flowering plant of ginger family. Turmeric is one of the main ingredients in Indian cuisine, and can be used on different cuisine as well. Curcumin is a substance found in a turmeric that may help reduce inflammation and ease symptoms of Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. In some lab test curcumin even blocked the growth of certain kinds of tumours. It can be used to safely and effectively treat serious states of depression. So consumption of turmeric on daily basis is good for health, it encourages proper digestion, fat loss and turmeric can help prevent cancer. It can help in preventing Alzheimer’s disease.

6.FENUGREEK / METHI
It is commonly used in Ayurveda, particularly to enhance libido and masculinity. It has beneficial effect on blood sugar level. It contains the plant protein 4-hydroxyisoleucine,which can improve the function of the hormone. It is used to treat digestive problems such as loss of appetite, upset stomach, constipation, inflammation of the stomach (gastritis). Fenugreek is also used for diabetes, painful menstruation, menopause, polycystic ovary syndrome, arthritis, poor thyroid function.

There are lots of evidence out there in our ayurveda which supports the health benefits of many herbs and spices. By the way herbs won’t magically make you a healthy person but its just one more reason they are worth trying out.
